Zinc-Nickel Plating

Techmetals utilizes Zinc Nickel plating to help slow the corrosion process on parts frequently used for aerospace and military environments.

Both Zinc and Nickel are widely used in a variety of finishing applications on their own, but a combination of the two metals provides a far greater resistance to corrosion than the individual metals can offer.

Zinc Nickel Plating

Deposits of this metal plating offer a durable finish that helps reduce the development of metal frays that can cause damage to the finished piece. Zinc Nickel provides excellent adhesion with smooth deposits that are blister free.

Top coats and passivation treatments can also improve long-term performance. Zinc Nickel plating can also serve as a “sacrificial” coating for an underlying substrate — corroding before the metal underneath is effected. During salt spray testing, zinc nickel coated parts can withstand the formation of white rust for up to 500 hours, and up to 1,000 hours for red rust.

Zinc Nickel coating is also preferred in applications where the part or component is in contact with aluminum. It helps drastically reduce corrosion and is also able to withstand the higher temperatures associated with engines.

Benefits of Zinc Nickel Plating:

  • Great corrosion resistance
  • Economic plating solution
  • Withstands high temperatures
  • Offers great adhesion for post processing operations
